The visit starts by reading the facade of the cathedral of Notre Dame which was conceived as an open book. Considered as one of the finest example of french gothic architecture, we will learn about this new architectural style and its main elements. Constructed in the 12th century, its location, the 'île de la cité', was once the shelter of the first inhabitants which makes it the symbol of the city and the background of a worldwide story the Hunchback of Notre Dame and his tragic love for Esmeralda. By the way this is the icing on the cake. Come and discover life in the middle ages, its architectural style and the symbolism behind its stained glass windows, gargoyles and chimeras. Let me tell you all about what happened during the French Revolution and World War II, its treasures and its most recent episode and turmoil.

Climbing up the towers needs booking. To do so you need to download an app called 'je file' and book a place on the day of the visit. In case you would like to discover the towers, we advice you to reserve after our visit inside the cathedral.
A dress code is required to enter places of worship. No shorts or sleeveless tops allowed. Knees and shoulders MUST be covered for both men and women. You may risk refused entry if you fail to comply with these dress requirements

If I could give this tour 10 stars I would, it was amazing and a big highlight of our holiday. It's a year ago since our trip and I cant remember the name of our guide but she was wonderful, a beautiful person, gentle manner, didn't rush us and so informative and passionate about history in general and in particular about Notre Dame. We are not historians at all so I was a little nervous the tour would be too much for us but the guide went at our pace and we just loved it. I have never booked a private tour before but the cost difference from a bigger tour wasn't great and the times for the bigger tour didn't suited us. This we were able to do to suit our schedule. I could not recommend it more. One tip we did it early on a Sunday morning and it was quieter at Notre Dame, the time worked very well for the tour.
