Start your experience with a pickup from your hotel at your preferred departure time. Then, settle into your private car with your driver and travel direct to Auschwitz-Birkenau, outside the town of Oświęcim, without any stops to pick up other passengers.

After roughly 1.5 hours, arrive at the visitor center. Here, take your leave of your private driver and set off on a guided group tour of the UNESCO-listed site.

Enter the gates of the compound under the chilling inscription of ‘Arbeit macht frei’ or ‘work sets one free,’ and learn how the Nazi concentration camp was founded in 1940 as a detention camp for Polish prisoners before becoming an extermination center for the Jews of Europe and other ‘anti-social’ groups.

Discover how this change saw Auschwitz extended to include neighboring Birkenau, creating a camp that was to claim the lives of an estimated 1.1 million people. Explore the key buildings — some still intact and some in ruins — and see the exhibitions that chart the fates of many of those imprisoned here.

View the crematoriums and gas chambers, and gaze at Birkenau’s watchtowers and barracks as you hear how the camp was run and guarded. While the facts of what happened here are distressing, your guide will explain everything in a sensitive and considered way.

Break from your explorations to visit the memorial to the camp’s victims, and spend a few moments in memory of those who were detained here not so long ago.

During your tour, there will be a brief break for lunch. There are no eating facilities at Auschwitz-Birkenau, so please bring your own refreshments on the day.

Afterward, leave your group and meet back up with your driver and car. Then, travel directly back to your Krakow hotel, where your tour concludes.

The tour is quite shattering, so be emotionally and physically prepared. Don't plan much that night and don't go alone. The tour guide was just fantastic. Deeply knowledgeable and you could tell that what she was telling us just scratched the surface of the story. Because of the tour, I bought several books at the bookstore and, less than 24-hours later, I have already finished one. Reading these histories is completely different when the narrator refers to a place or a building, and you have been there. There is a lot of walking, so wear good shoes. It was probably the most meaningful tour I have ever been on. We used the private transport, and our driver was also just excellent. He provided history as we drove, and yet also knew exactly when we needed to contemplate in quiet. He also suggested other tours which we booked immediately based on this experience.

Wasn't looking forward to this trip, but so glad I went. Its important that we see and hear what happened, so it doesn't happen again. We were meet on time from out hotel in a comfortable minivan. On route he showed us a film which set the mood of the visit and prepared us emotionally as to what to expect. This trip has lots of walking especially when you visit Birkenau, so be warned. Little time between Auschwitz and Birkenau visits so maybe bring food and drink with you. There are cafes in Auschwitz but depending on when you go could have queues.

I had hired a private driver to take a friend and myself on this tour. Dominic was professional, helpful and considerate. During our 90 minute drive to Auschwitz-Birkenau, we were shown a video in the car. It was extremely helpful in giving me more information about what I was to see upon arrival. Upon the end of the tour at Birkenau, Dominic was waiting for us.This is a tour everyone should take. The nations of the world need to work together so the horrors that happened at these camps never, never, happens again. There are no words to express the complete devastation, inhumanity that I witnessed while touring the remains of these sites. Photos will never do it justice.
