Itinerary
This is a typical itinerary for this product
Stop At: Zipaquira, Zipaquirá, Cundinamarca, Colombia
Get to know an antique train station which nowadays only works during the weekends and takes dozens of visitors from Bogotá to Zipaquirá. This railway was a commercial link between Bogotá and the salt mines. Today, the same classic steam train that dates back to the end of the nineteenth century is used as a tourist train. It goes slowly through the flatlands of the Savannah to the old village of Zipaquirá.
Once at the Zipaquirá station, you will continue the journey to the Salt Cathedral of Zipaquirá by your own on a shuttle bus. The Salt Mine is a splendid work of modern engineering and art opened to the public in 1995, adapted to be a cathedral. The materials found underground were manipulated by artists and sculptors that with some help of special lighting effects, created a unique interpretation of Catholic iconography.
After your visit to the Cathedral, the same shuttle service will drive you to the traditional village of Cajicá. There you will have time for lunch and for wandering around the main square. Afterward, the train will depart and get you back to Bogotá by 4:30 pm.
Duration: 5 hours

We were warmly greeted by our guide. He got us to the train on time and was there to greet when we got back. The train ride was a wonderful experience of singing and laughter. The salt mines was very interesting how ever we never understood a word the guide said but the mine was impressive on its own. There was plenty of time for nice lunch in a Mexican restaurant. All in all was fun day
The train was fun but it was the slowest train in the world. It wasn’t a steam train either. I think Sunday is steam train day. On Saturday we had a diesel. When you get to Zipaquirá buses take you on to cathedral (buy Tix on the train). After tour bus takes u back to train. Very brief at Cathedral
Very well organised, picked up on time and all went according to the description.
